I believe it was 1985, Just returned home to Austin from working in New Zealand, I’d just finished building a new neon shop and I was hungry (literally) for work. Greg and his then partner, Randy, were building out the second dining room in the coolest 80′ contemporary style and they hired me to “neon up” the place, complete with those classic Manuel’s ruby red curves in the windows and hot pink light that emanating from under each of the booths, giving the illusion that they were levitating. And it really did look like they were floating! Our deal included a lot of trade for food since like I said, I really was hungry back then! Greg, Randy, Ahmad and the staff were so kind and gracious, always making me feel at home there. Looking back it makes me feel proud to think that, little did we know it at the time, we were part of a vibrant young community of ground breaking Austin businesses that really did shape this town in many ways. I am so pleased to see Greg and Ahmad and the restaurant are still healthy and happy ( just like me) after all these years celebrating OMG! 40 years of living good and prospering! Congratulations. y’all – May we stay forever young! With love and light, XOBen Livingston
