I was incredibly fortunate in my second marriage to get a mother-in-law who I adored, and who adored me. Unfortunately, she had spent the better part of the 20 years prior keeping the wolf away from the door by the time I met her. The wolf—cancer—had attacked her breasts, brain, and at the end, her liver and stomach. Eight years after I married her amazing son, the wolf finally won. But three years before that, knowing that time was a luxury we did not have, we celebrated her birthday at the location of her choosing—Manuel’s. Jennifer McNevin and her staff did everything possible to make her feel as special as we all thought she was. This was the last birthday we were able to celebrate out with her, as her appetite and ability to eat went downhill pretty quickly shortly thereafter. We continue to go to Manuel’s often and think of her fondly every time we are there. It holds a special place in our hearts and always will. And the photo I’ve included is actually the last one of all of us (me, my husband, Brian; one of his two sons; my daughter; and my husband’s brother, Adam) with her. ##LoveManuels #Manuels40th
