In November 2001, I had a first date for drinks and appetizers with a woman I met online on Match.com at the now closed Manuel’s on Congress Avenue. We sat face to face in a cozy window booth looking out at Congress Avenue. We chatted about ourselves and initially it seemed like we might be compatible. My date eventually got up to use the restroom. When she returned, she pointedly sat back down next to me in the booth, making sure I understood that she hoped our first date would not be our last one. It took me several years of dating her to finally pop the question, but this month we celebrated our unquestionably happy 18th wedding anniversary. Obviously, Manuel’s will always occupy a special place in our wonderful memories.
