After years of living in Austin, I moved just outside Fort Worth, and I want to cry because there is not one Mexican food restaurant that comes close to Manuel’s. It’s the gold standard. Here’s my Manuel’s story – As a young former UT student, I worked in the old Frost Bank building on Congress in the 90s. I took clients to Manuel’s at the 211 Congress location and ate there as often as I could. I loved the Chicken Enchiladas with Verdes Sauce so much I ordered that and a glass of tea every time I dined without fail. It was literally the same order every time. It was so bad, I had a favorite waiter and he knew my order like the back of his hand. Sometimes I think he had my food waiting without asking what I wanted. He just knew. One day a huge group of my colleagues invited me to eat a Manuel’s. We walked over and were seated immediately. My favorite waiter happened to wait on us. He went around the table and asked everyone for their orders, skipping over me, then he disappeared to turn in the order. My colleagues were upset after having noticed my waiter skipped me. They thought he was rude. When he came back, he had everyone’s food including mine. People were stunned. I just laughed and said, “I’ve been here once or twice,” The waiter looked at me, then winked and laughed. I explained my absolute devotion to Manuel’s to everyone at the table. Please open a location in Fort Worth! Fort Worth needs you! Heck, I need you! I miss you guys!
